Why integrating SAP is different

SAP is not a generic ERP. Its data model distinguishes between Business Partners (customers, suppliers, leads), Items (articles with multiple warehouses and units of measure), Orders (orders with complex payment terms) and Deliveries (partial shipments tied to orders). Each entity has its own business rules that generic middleware ignores.

Integrafy knows the difference between SAP B1 — where we connect via Service Layer and DI API — and SAP R/3 / ECC, where communication goes through RFC, BAPI and IDoc. We don\u2019t build generic adapters: every connector respects the native SAP model.

Frequently asked questions about SAP + eCommerce integration

What's the difference between integrating SAP B1 and SAP R/3?

SAP B1 exposes its data via Service Layer and DI API, modern and well-documented protocols. SAP R/3 requires connection through RFC, BAPI or IDocs — more complex protocols, but equally supported by Integrafy Core without any modifications to SAP.

What connection methods does Integrafy use with SAP?

For SAP B1 we use Service Layer (REST) and DI API (COM). For SAP R/3 / ECC we connect via RFC (Remote Function Call), BAPI and IDoc processing. In every case, the connection is read-only or uses a dedicated integration user.

How long does implementation with SAP take?

A standard SAP B1 ↔ eCommerce integration goes live in 2-3 weeks. SAP R/3 can take 4-6 weeks due to the complexity of SD/MM modules. Integrations with custom IDocs can take longer depending on the volume of customizations.

Is SAP modified during the integration?

No. Integrafy connects to SAP via its standard APIs and protocols without installing anything on the SAP server. All it needs is an integration user with the right permissions. Your SAP stays untouched.

Does it work with SAP HANA?

Yes. Integrafy supports SAP B1 on HANA and SAP S/4HANA. The connection layer is independent from the underlying database. If your SAP runs, Integrafy connects.
